School Improvement

School Improvement is a continuous, data driven process that assesses five facets of school and school system operations to monitor the on-going effectiveness of a school and to enable the school to make changes as needed:

Analysis of student assessment data,
Gauging the affect of school processes on student achievement,
Observation and evaluation of teaching and learning,
The degree to which the school /system provides professional learning to build capacity for improvement, and
The perceptions of the various stakeholders of a school or school system.

The School Improvement Department of Pioneer RESA works with the staff of the schools and systems we serve, and with the Department of education’s “Region Support Team” to assist Pioneer RESA schools and systems as they work to meet the requirements of “No Child Left Behind” or to improve the effectiveness of their schools.    We work with systems and individual schools to build capacity for change; to gather and interpret data, including student achievement data; and to provide training and professional learning for teachers and leaders as they evaluate and improve their schools.

Our consultants can assist schools in writing school improvement plans, gathering and interpreting data, monitoring instructional effectiveness, implementing the new Georgia Performance Standards, creating unit and lesson plans that focus on student learning, or by offering professional learning opportunities to teachers and leaders that build capacity within the school to address a school’s specific needs.

Following, is a list of suggested topics that can be adapted to your school needs as identified in your School Improvement Plan. These topics listed are suggestions only. The Pioneer Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) staff will work with individual schools in assisting with their School Improvement goals and achieving the universal goals of designing quality work for all students.
