Grants: SADD | Child Safety Seats | Rural Roads
Pioneer RESA announces a grant of $92,000 has been received from the
Governor's Office of Highway Safety for building community mobilizations in Northeast Georgia for the purpose of reducing injuries and fatalities on rural roads. This grant is focused on a public health approach to create safety-related changes in environmental and individual factors made possible by working with community partners to address this problem.
The project provides additional support to local health departments which have suffered reduction in staff from recent budget cuts. The grant contains funding for the registration of training for the entire State Troopers staff in Troop B.
This project is to cover countries in Northeast Georgia: Banks, Dawson, Forsyth,
Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and
White. This project also is providing support and the coordination of 20 Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapters in high schools in Northeast Georgia.

Pioneer RESA has been approved by the Georgia Office of Highway Safety to receive a Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) grant in the amount of $52,000. The following schools and mountain education centers have bee
n approved to receive this grant: Flowery Branch High, MEC Blairsville, MEC Dahlonega, Catalyst Christian Learning Center in White County, Rabun County High, Towns County High, West Hall High, Woody Gap School, Banks County High, East Hall High, Dawson County High, Hart County High, Habersham Central High, Stephens County High, MEC Ellijay, MEC Toccoa, Forsyth Central High, North Forsyth High, South Forsyth High, and West Forsyth High. This project is designed to address drinking and driving among teens in high schools.
Randall Townley is a Certified Instructor and Technician for the nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Program. He provides one-on-one personalized instruction to parents and caregivers on the proper use of child restraint systems and seat belts, as well as, a community advocate and resource for the Region 2 Health District.
