Engaging Learners with 21st Century Curriculum - 2 PLUs

Designed for teachers who want to develop engaged learning environments in their classrooms. Student learning is improved when students are engaged in the learning process. Participants will use a variety of technologies along with the Georgia Performance Standards to develop engaging lesson plans for their students.

 

Blogging 101 - 1 PLU

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and operations necessary to effectively use Blogging to increase student achievement in the K-12 classroom. Participants will learn how to use blogging, an online writing method, with their students to progress them through the writing process (e.g., prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing) and subsequently post their writing to the World Wide Web. Teachers will also be introduced to social bookmarking, news aggragators, and photo-sharing services. Participants will learn how to use blogging to communicate with their students and parents and also as an instructional resource for students.

 

An  online course that introduces participants to basic web page design and how web pages can be used to engage learners. Instructional web pages can be effective tools for engaged learning. Participants will evaluate instructional web sites to determine what makes them effective. Participants will develop and publish an instructional web page that can be used in their classroom.

 

Enhancing Algebraic Instruction using Graphing Calculators - 1 PLU

A comprehensive 2-day workshop developed for middle school and high school mathematics teachers who wish to update their knowledge on graphing calculators. The workshop gives participants the opportunity to have hands-on experience with graphing calculators. The course allows the participants to integrate technology in a mathematics classroom while correlating graphing calculator activities to the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). Pioneer RESA, ETTC will provide the calculators for the 2 day instruction. The focus is on geometry and algebra content in a classroom setting and allows the participant to utilize the graphing calculator to enhance instruction beyond the four function calculator. Most levels of algebra and geometry will be covered throughout the course.

 

MathemaTECHs - 1 PLU

Are you looking for resources to revitalize your math instruction? Do you want to learn how to best utilize the computer for students in your math classroom? This is the workshop for you! Come and explore strategies to help your students meet Georgia Performance Standards using technology-connected activities. Explore some of the fantastic web resources available for teachers and students. Discover a variety of quick and easy student computer activities that integrate technology into the math curriculum. Participants will leave with resources and activities they can use tomorrow in their classroom.

Introduces participants to Microsoft Excel. Discover ways of using spreadsheets to Excel in your current position. This course is appropriate for administrators, teachers, and support staff.

 

In this class you will be looking at free web based tools that teachers will be able to use in their classrooms. Some examples would be: Discussion Boards, Surveys, Rubic Builders, Quiz Programs.

Interactive Whiteboard - 2 PLUs

In this workshop, participants will explore and learn to use the interactive whiteboard tools and enhancements to create instructional resources to use in the classroom. Time will be given for participants to create, using the whiteboard software, items that can be utilized for instruction in their classrooms. Exploration of a classroom response system, a tool for collecting immediate student feedback, will also be included.

 

Cool eTools for the Classroom - 1 PLU

Do your days seem to get shorter and shorter? During this class, technology time-saving tools will be developed that will help the classroom teachers and support personnel (PARAPROFESSIONALS) maximize the use of classroom time. Helpful strategies that include classroom management, trouble-shooting, as well as appropriate and effective use of tools will be discussed.

 

Introduction to Microsoft Word. Discover exciting ways of using Word. This course is appropriate for administrators, teachers, and support staff.

 

Ready to take your Google-ing to a whole other level? In this online course you'll get a behind the scenes look at how Google really works, learn little known Google tools and tricks that will change the way you search.

 

Integrating Graphing Calculators with Geometry using Cabri Jr. - 1 PLU

Graphing calculators are a resource and a lifestyle for every student. Participants will receive hands-on training on the basics of graphing calculators and correlating GPS activities for the classroom. The activities will cover most levels of Geometry. TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculators will be provided for in-class instruction. Feel free to bring your personal graphing calculator.

 

An online course that guides participants to use the Internet as a tool for engaging learners. The internet is a wonderful technology tool that can lead to active learning in the classroom. A selection of free web-based tools for teachers will be evaluated. Web-based classroom resources will be discussed, along with how to find appropriate resources online.

 

Podcasting - 1 PLU

Apple's iPod and similar devices have created a world where anyone can be an Internet broadcaster! Participants in this workshop will create a Podcast and will experience producing and posting "streaming video" for their schools' websites. Learn how to use podcasting in your classroom to enhance the 21st skills of your students.

 

An online course that guides participants on how to use Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool for engaging learners. PowerPoint is a multimedia software package that gives teachers and students the ability of creating exciting and dynamic presentations.

Scavenger Hunts for Science & Social Studies - 1 PLU

Investigate ideas to engage students in exploring the Internet through the use of scavenger hunts correlated to the Georgia Performance Standards. This course will focus on science and social studies in grades K-5 with follow-up activities that cover other curriculum areas. Come and explore ways to get your students involved in meaningful research that gives them a knowledge base they can apply in other learning activities.

 

SMART Board Training - 2 PLUs

This course will enable participants to acquire knowledge and confidence as they explore the basic features of the SMART interactive whiteboard. Participants will create beginner-level electronic pages using the Notebook software components of this interactive whiteboard system. Participants will also explore the Classroom Performance System-a tool for collecting immediate feedback.

 

Using "Unitedstreaming for Differentiated Instruction - 1 PLU

This hands on learning experience is appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school teachers who want to use the rich resources provided by unitedstreaming and the Georgia Public Broadcasting website to differentiate instruction. As well as being introduced to Georgia Public Broadcasting resources, video streaming/unitedstreaming website, participants will also explore classroom integration strategies for digital media in PowerPoint and Windows Movie Maker.
