Dr. Sandy Addis has worked for 38 years in public education as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, principal, system-level administrator, RESA consultant, and RESA director.  Dr. Addis worked for 28 years in South Carolina and for three years in Stephens County before coming to Pioneer RESA in 2002.  He holds degrees from Furman University, Clemson University, and South Carolina State University.

Dr. Addis’ areas of specialization include organization design, strategic planning, staff development, at-risk education, and dropout prevention.  During his career, Dr. Addis has authored grant proposals that brought over ten million dollars in competitive grant funds to school systems and agencies of Northeast Georgia and South Carolina.  In 1988, he designed, secured funding for, and directed a federal dropout prevention project that reduced a rural school system’s high school dropout rate from 8% per year to less than 2% per year.

Dr. Addis has served as an adjunct instructor for Clemson University, The University of South Carolina, and South Carolina State University.  He has worked as a grant reader for the United States Department of Education, the Georgia Department of Education, and the South Carolina Department of Education.  He has authored numerous professional articles on at-risk education, staff development, and strategic planning and has delivered presentations at regional and national conferences.  Dr. Addis currently serves as President of the Georgia RESA Directors Association and represents Georgia on the National Dropout Prevention Center’s Board of Directors.  He was instrumental in bringing the 2008 National Dropout Prevention Conference to Atlanta and is Co-Chair of the National Dropout Prevention Conference Planning Committee.  His leisure time is spent enjoying Lake Hartwell with his wife Martha and daughter Kate.
